The 2014 Arsies: January 30, 2014

January 30, 2014

I hope you've temporarily gotten your fill of staid civility, because today's all about rude noise. Starting us off is The Psyke Project's Guillotine, a snarling and tribal set of tunes that revels in its repugnance. The first half of the album skews more outwardly in its hostility, with frenetic energy giving way to a more comtenplative doom. The result is an album that happily hauls you down into the mire.
By comparison, One Of Us Is The Killer spins you like a crazy top. Like Guillotine, this album from The Dillinger Escape Plan is discordant and chaotic and high energy. But it's also jazzy, more varied, more interesting, more headbangy... just more more more. And so, despite the fact that both The Psyke Project and The Dillinger Escape Plan turn in two excellent albums today, it's DEP that handily emerges victorious.
Tomorrow we end the week with Karnivool and Razormaze!
