The 2014 Arsies: February 7, 2014

February 7, 2014

We start the Arsies Quarterfinals today, and I suspect we're done with anything remotely close to an easy victory. Let's start with two seemingly unstoppable acts: Gorguts and Sevendust.
Gorguts begin the day with their brand of technical grossness. By now, you'd think I'd be tired of the aural assault that is Colored Sands (after all, I've listened to it a half dozen times in the last month alone). Instead, I've just grown to love it more with each listen, which such an otherworldly and unique and unsparing sound. Sevendust return fire with their post-metal masterpiece Black Out The Sun, but after a fresh serving of Gorguts, it naturally comes off a little hollow and light by comparison. Sorry, Sevendust, you had a good run.
That's it for Week 5! On Monday, we start our last full week by listening to two very, very different bands: The Dillinger Escape Plan and Karnivool. Ugh. This will not be pretty.
