The 2014 Arsies: February 12, 2014

February 12, 2014

Okay, listen. I refuse to talk shit about either of these bands or albums today. It really could have gone either way, and it's easy for me to imagine either of these albums going all the way to the top, almost any other year. It pains me to have to eliminate one at all. But them's the breaks.
The Black Dahlia Murder have a real winner in Everblack. It's an album of such high quality, with very few blemishes to speak of, that only a truly special album could possibly have ended their inevitable march. Alas, Altered State is truly special, and after listening to both albums repeatedly today, the decision to award the day to TesseracT became an easy one. My only real regret is that this matchup didn't happen a little later in the competition.
That takes care of the Quarterfinals! Four bands and albums remain in this competition. On Friday, we'll see whether The Dillinger Escape Plan can succeed where The Black Dahlia Murder failed. But tomorrow, we treat ourselves to Gorguts and Revocation. I really don't know how that's going to go, do you?
