Today was bound to be upsetting, to me as well as many reading along.
But here's the thing: while Altered State ably demonstrates that TesseracT can do a lachrymose mood very well, One Of Us Is The Killer proves that The Dillinger Escape Plan can do many things well. It's brutal, jazzy, catchy, virtuosic, sonically dense, and above all surprising. And then there's the matter of aftertaste: while the TesseracT leaves you feeling like you've gone through a cavernous but rewarding odyssey, the DEP does a fantastic job of making you feel like you've put in your time in the pit.... which, oh yeah, is what the Arsies is all about. So, while I hasten to remind you that both albums are masterpieces, if I've gotta pick only one to send into the Final Battle (and I do), I'm picking The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Okay friends, that's it for the Semifinals. After six weeks of intense metal domination, only one more decision needs to be made: who reigns supreme, Revocation or The Dillinger Escape Plan?
