Revocation's eponymous album is flawless. It's expertly performed high-energy modern thrash... in short, everything I could ever want from a metal album. Except that there's something to missing here, something about the whole album that feels a little too obvious and easy. One Of Us Is The Killer has all the high marks of Revocation, but nothing about it is obvious. And so, with this layered masterpiece, The Dillinger Escape Plan come out on top, and win this year's Gilded Arse.
But really, congratulations to all 32 contestants: this was a very good year for metal!
